Connect Your Bank to Moniaro
Automatically import your transactions and keep your books up to date without manual data entry.

When you connect a bank account to Moniaro, we fetch your available transaction history so your books start with a full picture — without you needing to export files or manually enter data.
Specifically, when you first connect an account we retrieve up to 12 months of available transaction history. After that, you can sync your bank feeds whenever you want to import new transactions into your Moniaro account.
What we access
We request read-only access to your connected accounts. We will only ever read from your accounts — we cannot and do not initiate payments or move money on your behalf unless you explicitly request a payment feature.
The information we fetch includes:
- Account name, type, and balance
- Transaction descriptions, amounts, and dates
- Merchant or payee details returned by your bank
We use this information solely to provide the bookkeeping and accounting features of Moniaro. We do not sell your financial data or share it with third parties except as necessary to operate the service. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
Ongoing access
The connection stays activeuntil you revoke access — so you can sync your bank feeds and import new transactions whenever you need. You are in full control and can disconnect at any time from your Moniaro account settings.
Your controls
View connected accounts
You can always see which bank accounts you have connected in your Moniaro account settings, regardless of your subscription status.
Disconnect at any time
Revoke Moniaro's access to any connected account at any time from your Moniaro settings, or directly at my.akahu.nz. Disconnecting stops future transaction imports immediately.
Connection status alerts
If a connected account becomes inactive (for example, because your bank requires you to re-authenticate), Moniaro will notify you so you can reconnect and resume syncing.
Delete your account
When you delete your Moniaro account, we automatically revoke all connected account access and delete your Akahu-sourced financial data that is no longer required, in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

Moniaro uses Akahuto connect to your bank accounts. Akahu is New Zealand's open finance platform, enabling secure, consent-based access to financial account data. Your bank credentials are entered directly into your bank's own interface — Moniaro never sees your internet banking username or password.
Security
- All data transferred between your bank, Akahu, and Moniaro is encrypted using TLS.
- Your bank credentials are never visible to Moniaro.
- Access tokens are stored securely and never exposed to the browser.
- You can revoke access at any time without contacting us.
